Sep. 9th, 2009 07:43 pm They're Gone

One year ago, when my sister's house was water-damaged during Hurricane Ike, I reluctantly let her move in with me. Oh, I didn't act reluctant. She's family. You do that kind of thing for family. But I loved living alone. I loved my house just the way it was. And, let's face it, Janis and I have VERY different styles of house-keeping.
Now, one year later, she's gone. She and Lorre drove off this morning, headed for Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. She took Goldilocks and Creamball (the cats) with her. I cried when I hugged her goodbye, and I cried again when I got home from work this evening. Home, with just me and Fluffy. Oh, I know she's not gone forever; in fact she has to come back to the States every 6 months since she's on a visitor's visa. But I miss her anyway. I even miss Creamy and Goldy. I think Fluffy does, too.

Aug. 23rd, 2009 08:18 pm It's that time again

School starts for real tomorrow. By that I mean the students come tomorrow. And for the first year in a long time, I'm not dreading it. I must have disliked my old school THAT much. Last year doesn't count because it's hard to start in a new school. But I feel so much calmer than I usually do at this time. It's gonna be a good year.

To Mel and Kim: Janis just laughed when I told her about registering for a wedding gift, so I guess that's not gonna happen. You can send money. Just make the check out to Diane Te....

Whether you are a parent, teacher, both, or neither--I hope we all have a great school year for 09-10!

Aug. 10th, 2009 11:15 pm Married

No...not me! I recently flew to Ontario, Canada to witness my sister's marriage to her long-time girlfriend. It was a very small affair--only the minister from a local UU church, the bride and bride, and each bride had a sister. We went to a city park nearby and did the whole thing by the river. It was nice. Then the bridal party had a nice dinner at a local steakhouse, where they comped us a dessert for our celebration. Nice of them! The next morning, I flew home. Now my sister still has to work on Canadian citizenship, but at least they are married. Legally, in Canada, a few states and a few countries. Not in Texas, which is why my sister relocated to Canada instead of the other way around. The summers are better, too.

Aug. 4th, 2009 02:22 pm No dental pain

A small night guard has cured my dental pain problem. Yeah! Then I drove my nephew's stick shift truck (to get it inspected and registered while he's at Marine boot camp) and spent the next day with knee pain from the clutch. Now I am pain free. Well, there is some mental pain because I have to go back to work next week! This week I am flying to Canada (Toronto) to witness my sister get married to her long-time long-distance girlfriend. But Janis has to come back here, finish packing, finish the last couple of weeks of work, and fly to Califonria to watch her son graduate from Marine boot camp. Hopefully, by September she and Lore will be living together in wedded bliss.
Whew! I need school to start--I need the rest!

Jul. 20th, 2009 10:05 pm Home!

I'm finally home after a week in California. I drove up the California coast with my sister, from Oceanside up to Monterey, then over to Salinas. We saw amazing views, the Hearst Castle, Mission Santa Barbara (where the Island of the Blue Dolphins girl is buried), Bubble gum Alley in San Luis Obispo, Morro Rock, Nojoqui Falls,McWay Falls, and a bunch of other stuff. It was fun! AND Kay and I got along the whole trip!

Jul. 11th, 2009 05:51 pm Plan plan plan

I have lots of planning to do now. I have to plan my lesson for 1st grade Sunday school, then I have to plan for my substitute for next Sunday. Then I have to plan my packing for my vacation to California. Whew! Lots of planning. It's exhausting!

Jul. 10th, 2009 07:46 pm Facebook

I'm finally on facebook! I have a whole ONE picture on there. Maybe when I "empty" my camera I'll put more on. Or when I return from my vacation. Monday (7/13) I'm flying to California, meeting up with my sister and we're driving up the coast for a few days. We won't make it all the way up with the few days we have, but it'll be fun!

Jul. 6th, 2009 09:42 am Isn't Summer Great!

Well, for teachers it is, I guess. Maybe not for parents who have to deal with their kids all day! Ha! I've actually been busy this summer, but it's still nice to choose what I do that day. I did have the wisdom teeth removed, and I have taken some workshops to make me a better teacher (and to fulfill that pesky continuing education requirement), and this week I'm involved in Vacation Bible School at church. Yeah!
At this moment I'm sitting in the air conditioned house while a co-worker who does handy-man jobs in the summer is putting new drywall on my garage ceiling. Ahhh, this is the life.
Next week it's off to sunny California to visit Kay (my sister) and we're going to drive up part of the coastline. She lives near San Diego, so we'll start there and go up to about Monterey. It will be fun if we don't kill each other first! Kay and I love each other, but we used to fight like cats and dogs when we were kids. And when we were big kids, too.

Jun. 24th, 2009 11:25 pm I Need A Maid

My whole family (parents, all siblings, one sister-in-law, two nieces) are all coming over on Saturday. It's a good thing, but I hate cleaning house! And with 3 cats in the house, there is fur EVERYWHERE!! Ugh! But I am excited about seeing everyone!

Little pain still, but less and less everyday.
